I've always liked the title "Count". Partly because of Dracula, the Count von Count, and Count Blah. But it's got a nice woody word feel.

"Earl" is tinny. I don't like it as much. But "Count" comes from the Norman-French "Comte" and "Earl" from the Anglo-Saxon "Eorl". Theoretically my persona is pre-Conquest Saxon.

But, since I don't fight or consort, I'll never have to make the decision. So why am I mulling it over, he asks rhetorically?

Perhaps because it beats agonizing over last Wednesday's interview. Bah.

What type of jobs are you looking for? The company has several openings in our financial department, but I'm not sure any of them are worthy of your talents. Or that you want to come this far south. :)

He's looking for financial jobs with an artistic feel.

That would make him "Count de Monet", if he so chose.

Yeah, mulling over job interviews can get weird. It's best to do them and then move on. I mean, you've done enough interviews that I'm sure you already know what felt good and what didn't ...

I have the same problem. Always rather liked "Earl" myself, but Count is more appropriate for someone of Fronch extraction. "Count Colin" sounds tinny though, and even though "Comte deBray" sounds good and is more authentic form, in the SCA it would never fly.

Of course I might have overcome the dilemma by reigning twice, but then I'd be stuck with Duke, which sounds fine by itself but "Duke Colin" is perfectly awful - consecutive glottal stops! The horror!

Lucky for me the Khanaley gig came along. "Grete Kynge Kolin" is just about perfect.

I completely agree on the woody/tinny thing, except that the latin (you should excuse the expression) ROOT, viz., "comes" is just so gay.

Oh, and I know you'll smoke 'em in the interview.
