My shiny new (and much, much lighter and faster) laptop is almost completely configured and ready for use. The last step was setting up e-mail, which I managed with minimal hassle yesterday. Sadly I can't figure out how to copy over all my saved messages. That's probably a good thing in disguise - it forces me to go through and decide which five of the 300 are actually worth forwarding to keep.

Probably not today, though. I have to make a squash custard pie. We're driving over to my dad's place and cooking him dinner for Father's Day. (He isn't comfortable driving at night any more.) Since it's summer, I'm bringing a loaf of bread to bake and then we're going to have pimentos de padron flash-cooked in olive oil with shrimp, garlic, and saffron. With warm bread to dip in the oil.

If it's Outlook, the data is stored in a weird location:

C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Trick is that in Windows (or File) Manager, "AppData" is a hidden (system) folder. You can view this by going to "View" and "Options" (in Windows 8, can't remember setting location in Windows 7), click on the "Folder Options" tab, click "Show Hidden files, folders, and drives", then "OK". The file "Outlook.pst" is the one with all the outlook data (including email addresses and setup).

If you copy this to the other computer, it will copy everything including any mail folders, etc.

I'm using Thunderbird on the old laptop - which may tell you how old it is...

Ah. Thunderbird ... I use it for some newsgroup purposes, but not for my regular email.

Wow. I am not quite sure where the data is stored ... took a quick look at the usual places. I am sure it's out there somewhere, but ...
