(no subject)

Sesame Street's and my 35th season started today.
Disclaimer: I did not like Wham or Saint Elmo's Fire, even back then. And I never had a snakeskin mini-skirt.

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of Whitesnake's car
Her yellow SUV, is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing, has been, all right

Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2, and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids, in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
But she still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985
1985

She's seen all the classics
She knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink
Even Saint Elmo's Fire
She rocked out to Wham
Not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Thought she'd get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran

Where's the mini-skirt made of snakeskin
And who's the other guy singing in Van Halen
When did reality, become T.V.
What ever happened to sitcoms, game shows

On the radio was
Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2, and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids, in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
But she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

She hates time, make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop!
Stop!
Stop!

And bring back
Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2, and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids, in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
But she's still preoccupied
With 1985

Edited to add: LJ was treating this oddly, so I deleted and re-entered it.

Happy Birthday!

Yup. Thanks!

Happy birthday!

I felt quite elderly the other day when I heard that the lead guitarist of Motley Crue had fallen down & broken his hip.

Hppy B-day! Hope you have a good one.
So, does someone bake your birthday cake, or do you bake your own ;-) ?

[identity profile] madbaker.livejournal.com 2004-11-10 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It depends -- last year I baked my own. I think the wife is buying an ice cream cak this year. ([livejournal.com profile] aastg, is that how to spell "cak"?)

[identity profile] blkeagl.livejournal.com 2004-11-10 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I would write it kak or k8k, but then I'm thinking of an arabic word which sounds much the same. :-)

[identity profile] aastg.livejournal.com 2004-11-10 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cak" is correct. Like "cow-orker", it came from a misspelling, in this case from my cousin Pam; when she was 6 or 7 she sent my Dad a hand-lettered birthday card, wishing him lots of "cak and ice cream".

Happy Birthday -- and thank you for posting the lyrics for the "Bowling for Soup" song.

I didn't realize you were born in 1985, though

[identity profile] madbaker.livejournal.com 2004-11-10 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
If I had been born in 1985, I certainly wouldn't be preoccupied with the year. I wouldn't have been aware of what was on the radio (to pick one nit).

Then there's the reference at the top of the post. But I was a math major, so I know that 2004-1985 /= 35.

Happy birthday! You're so young! :-> :->

Welcome to the age where one can officially start having "mid-life" crises. :-)

Ombly borgeek! Borkborkbork (I know, I know...wrong incarnation of Muppets, and Ombly borgeek is from somewhere else entirely. So sue me ;-)

[identity profile] aastg.livejournal.com 2004-11-10 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that you're 35, think of how nice it will be that your middle-aged habits will not excite comments from others, though your youthful tastes will, instead of the other way round.

Happy Birthday, Sport. Next commedia you should consider a geezer role such as Dottore...

Happy birthday, which you share with Neil Gaiman and Edward Price.
