This week's Resolution Recipe: The Black Stallion cocktail.
I had planned to make rhubarb ice cream, but apparently it hasn't been a banner year for rhubarb here and there wasn't any available last week. Rhubarb rhubarb arugula. So I made nectarine ice cream instead. But since it was the same base as apricot ice cream but with only a related fruit substituted, I didn't think that was really a "new" recipe. So instead -
"Consider this a neo-tiki Negroni."
1 oz vermouth
1 oz amaro (I used Averna)
1 oz dark rum
dash orange bitters
Combine the liquors over a large cube of ice and stir well. Strain and serve.
What worked: It was fine.
What didn't: There was an after-flavor I couldn't identify that was a bit odd.
Will I make it again? Probably not; it wasn't bad, but not that interesting.
