Of course the weather shifted cooler. I planned a hot weather recipe.
This week's Resolution Recipe: Coulis de Fraises
I lied. You're shocked, I know. It's really "Fresh Strawberry Sauce".
1 basket fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced (use good quality ones from the farmers' market, not "white-shouldered" ones from Safeway)
1/2 cup sugar
1 T fresh lemon juice (I used half a Meyer lemon from our late lamented tree)
2 T dark rum
1/2 tsp candied ginger, minced
In a blender, puree the berries, sugar, and lemon juice until smooth. Stir in the rum and ginger. Refrigerate for an hour before using.
What worked: This was so freakin' good. And easy. I originally planned it to go over homemade goat milk ice cream, but we first had it on blintzes. Which was faboo. Good on the goat milk ice cream, too.
What didn't: I didn't mince the ginger finely enough. There were some ginger lumps in the sauce. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with it.
Will I make it again? Damn straight.
