We weren't shanghaied

Yesterday evening the wife and I visited the Old Ship Saloon - it's a financial district bar that yes, was originally built in a beached ship. It's been a brothel, sailors' boarding house, and various other things in its lifetime. Apparently during one renovation they found a record of shanghaied sailors and how much the bar was paid for each man.

A locals' bar, it's more a beer and wine pub than a cocktail bar. The wife asked for a sidecar and the response was "The bartender doesn't know how to make that. Is it like a Lemon Drop?"
...she had bottled cider instead.

I wouldn't hurry back, but it's an interesting bit of local history.

What brand of cider?

Wyder's pear. Nothing spectacular, but the wife doesn't generally like beer.

Don't drink from the Big Five Gallon Jar

That's so cool! Being a fan of CA History, I have some knowledge of "The Shanghai Game." Neat that you found a bar where that actually happened. I'll have to visit it....
