W-AT part one

There may be no other parts; it will depend on whether I remember other fragments I want to post later.

Driving up 101 was gorgeous. We stopped for lunch in Ukiah, at the local organic brewery; the food and beer were okay but not stellar. We made it to Brookings, OR at a reasonable time and, after a bit of net searching, we walked to a seafood Mexican place. It was properly tacky and quite tasty.

Thursday we drove the final 45 minutes - gorgeous - and the autocrats allowed us to set up a bit early as part of the Period Fud Encampment. The one major oops was opening the rear hatch and having a wine bottle take a header out the back. It shattered, but fortunately it was inside a padded cooler. The wife commented that I'd been onsite less than ten minutes and already I'd killed a bottle of wine...

Lots of cooking over firepits. Lots of food geeking and schmoozing. Very little shopping. Lots of yummy food, and eating en tableau was seriously impressive -- we had over 20 people in a line. We also fed two musicians one night in exchange for them singing. I didn't hit parties as I wasn't in the mood. Egg spitting, aka "The Sport of Cooks" was hilarious.

The drive home was long and made longer by stopping for breakfast in Brookings - there was a long wait for a table, and it probably took two hours total. Next time I think I'd bring a granola bar and push through to Crescent City.
