This week's Resolution Recipe: Barbecue Sauce.

1 Tbsp olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced (I used... more.)
1/2 small onion, minced
1 cup ketchup (I used half catsup and half house-made tomato paste)
1/4 cup molasses (I don't like molasses, so I used cider syrup)
2 Tbsp cider vinegar
2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
hot pepper sauce to taste

Heat the oil in a heavy saucepan. Add the garlic and onion and saute over medium heat until transparent. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes over low heat.

What worked: It tasted like barbecue sauce.

What didn't: I couldn't get any real heat from it, despite adding lots of various pepper sauces. It was just okay on ribs when I made it; a few days later it was better after the flavors had melded. The remains worked quite well on bacon-wrapped chicken breasts (I think this concoction needs some smoke...)

Will I make it again? Meh. We don't tend to use this sort of sauce very often.
