F*ck cancer.

Some months back my uncle was diagnosed with a very aggressive kidney cancer. They took one kidney, and despite a minor stroke during surgery he seemed to be doing all right - at least in a relative sense, because it was clear that he was on a limited time frame.

We're approaching those limits now. His other kidney is shutting down and the outlook is one to two months at the most.

My condolences to your uncle and all who love him. Both my dad and step-dad went to cancer. In both of their cases they actually died of pneumonia soon after the cancer was bad enough to be discovered as the reason behind the pain they'd been having, and while it was sad to lose them so soon, we were relieved that they didn't suffer longer.

Three of my grandparents died from various forms of cancer.

I'm so sorry. Will you get a chance to visit your uncle before the pain meds take over?

We had a family get-together a couple weeks ago when one of my aunts was in town.

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. It's hard to lose such close relatives.

I'm so sorry. Knowing that it's coming means there is some time to process, but it doesn't actually make anything easier. We lost Brian's sister just last week in much the same way.
