Cocktails in the Age of the Black Prince

This week's Resolution Recipe: The Black Prince cocktail.
I've had this at Smuggler's Cove. I have to be in the mood for it, but when I am I really like it. This was invented by the same guy who invented the Penicillin which I also really like. Apparently I must seek out the bar where this guy tends...

2 oz aged rum (I used TJ dark)
3/4 oz Punt e Mes
1/2 oz Averna Amaro
1 dash orange bitters

Add all ingredients, with ice, to a mixing glass. Stir to chill and strain into a coupe. Twist an orange peel to express the oil atop the drink, discarding the rind.

What worked: Mmmm. The bitter Punt e Mes and Amaro are delicious. This looks like coffee liqueur but makes a body bitter.

What didn't: I might make a half recipe next time - this was actually a bit more than I wanted to drink.

Will I make it again? Well, yes. I might try the sippin' rum but I wonder if it would be overwhelmed by the bitter... then again, how will I know without experimenting?
