Fud passion, and the lack thereof
On the brighter side, we had a very nice short-notice dinner with
gormflaith last night. We made Icelandic chicken with a fresh hippy chicken, house-cured bacon, and sage from the yard. She brought us two fresh baguettes and a nice bottle of wine we split with dinner. Good conversation, food, and hanging out.
The ostensible reason for dinner was me gifting her a huge bag of baking books that I'm not using. I also lent her my baking trough - the last time I used it was last year's W-AT War, and that was mainly as a demo.
It was tough to admit to myself what I've known for some time: that baking is not what I'm passionate about right now. Or for the last 5+ years. But this way the books can be used by someone who will appreciate them instead of taking up pointless space here. The trough is only a loan, though; I like it too much to give it away, but she can use it as long as she's interested in baking so that it's of use rather than a shelf-filler here.
ysabella_dolfin said something that resonated: "Any time you want to do something hard... people always say the most important component is passion. Passion is like lust, a blinding desire that must be quenched."
What gets me excited right now? Charcuterie, as is blindingly obvious. That I'm not alone in it makes it even more fun.

And I am fully converted to hippy chickens...
Drat, there goes the budget ;-)
Thank you again for the generous gift and loan.
I was seriously bummed when I got home and realized I'd left the lardo.:-(
