I'm allergic to penicillin. At least, the one time that they gave it to me as a kid, I got hives half the size of my head and stopped breathing. It could have been a one-off, but why tempt fate?

The wife has been (justifiably) nagging me for several years about this. I finally gave in and ordered a Medic-Alert type bracelet. It arrived yesterday.

I'm trying to adjust to wearing it. It's mildly annoying - it's about the same diameter as my watch band, so it wants to ride in the same place. I can't stand having anything dangling against my wrist, so that's not an option.

Minor, yes. But that's one of the reasons I post here, to chronicle the unimportant goings-on in my life.

You can also get them as a dog tags. Or. Just attach the business part of the bracelet to your watchband and have only one thing there.

Hmm... I'm allergic to it too, but since I just get small hives that are easily countered with benedryl, I haven't bothered with a bracelet.

But dude - stopping breathing? That's a ~bad~ thing.

Maybe you can wear it on the opposite wrist as your watch, so then they can both ride at the same place?

Can you wear it as a pendant, rather than bracelet?

It occurs to me that they should make a medic-alert watch band - or at least something that points out to folks "Hey, I have issues" (medically speaking) so you should check for a card, or bracelet or something elsewhere on my body.

In fact, I was right: http://www.americanmedical-id.com/products/1050384467

And a google search on "medical alert watch band" gives a lot more than that. Spelling "watchband" as one word still gives some matches...

There are tests that they can do on a sample of your blood, to establish allergies.

testing, 1...2...3

Yeah, but the health insurance doesn't think it's necessary. And I haven't been so curious that I'm willing to pay for it out-of-pocket.
