The mattress and box spring are replaced with the new setup. The washer is installed and running laundry from this weekend. All much quicker (and quieter, since I'm in working in the study) than I was afraid it would be.

Two things of note: the bed is now significantly higher than it used to be. We will try it out, but we may end up replacing it with the thinner version. We'll see. The other is that Beatrice utterly panicked when the box spring was being carried out and wedged herself under and in back of the stove. We've pulled the stove out a bit so that it's easier for her to come out, but it's probably best to let her decide when she's ready.

She moved from under the stove to under one of the armchairs. That's an improvement.

That *is* good - it took several days for one of our young cats to be seen anywhere other than under the stove after Loma Prieta (but I think something actually fell on him).

Bea was hiding under the bed because strangers came in, and then her cave/protection was rudely taken away when they lifted off the boxspring. It wasn't surprising that she panicked but we couldn't give her a safe/more accessible spot in time.

Poor little fuzz.... I hope she regains some form of equilibrium soon!

(At least she's already neutered - I took the traumatized cat in to be neutered two months after the earthquake, in December, and the staff needed me to come collect him out of the pen and into the carrier to come home; and the sticker of "caution cat" never came off his folder, no matter how well behaved he was afterwards.)
