Spock With a Goatee

This week's Resolution Recipe: The Southern Limerick.

Ingredients
1/2 oz rich simple syrup
3/4 oz amaro
3/4 oz rye whiskey
4 oz coffee
cream, lightly whipped
Angostura bitters

In a warmed glass, stir the syrup, amaro, rye, and coffee. Top with cream and dot with bitters.

What worked: It was like an Irish coffee, but slightly different. Like the Star Trek parallel-universe version (but still good).

What didn't: a little more work than a standard Irish. I'm not sure it was any better.

Will I make it again? eh, maybe. I'll put it in the cocktail recipe book at least.

Bonus Resolution Recipe: The Monte Carlo.

2 oz rye whiskey
1/2 oz Benedictine
1 dash Angostura bitters

Add all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir for about 30 seconds until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled rocks glass over a large ice cube.

What worked: It was okay.

What didn't: Eh, it didn't excite me.

Will I make it again? Maybe. It'll go into the book. I might like the rum variant better.
