The US Geological Survey is saying that the quake we just had was about 5.9 -- decent size, probably did some damage down near Paso Robles. About 150 miles away, I guess.

Here, we swayed. Kind of like a series of ocean swells. (shrug)

heh. We swayed and swayed and swayed and swayed. I'm on the 5th floor of the Cupertino City Towers, and we could hear people pounding down the stairs.

... then walking slowly back up the stairs afterwards. :->

Guess I was far enough away that I didn't feel a thing. Wow.

Yup. I thought I was just dizzy from not eating enough breakfast. :)

The best response...

Not-verbatim-transcript:
New Yawker: So, did you run out of the building?
Me: No.
NY: Did you duck and cover?
Me: No.
NY: Did you even get up from your chair?
Me: No, why would I do that? I'm a native Californian!

hee!! I did get up after a minute and walked over to the window, but that was just to see if I could see anything. :-> Which I couldn't.

I remember an econ class I had in college that was in one of the oldest buildings at SJSU when a 5.5 hit. The lights were going almost horizontal, and the teacher, who was from back east, screamed, "Hit the deck! We're all gonna die!!"

You could always tell the out-of-state freshman in college by how they reacted to the first quake of the school year... I remember a 5 or so that hit at 7 AM, and a shapely young woman running screaming outside clad only in her towel.

We approved of that response, though. 8)
