Thanksgiving with my dad went well. I cooked a large turkey breast sous vide, then pulled out my seldom-used Smoking Gun. Seldom-used because it doesn't actually impart much smoke, but we did get some additional flavor on the turkey breast so what the heck. Everything was pre-cooked so we nuked everything except the brussels sprouts, which we put in his small toaster oven to maintain crunch. The only thing that didn't work that well was the gravy; I like thick gravy, but it should pour. This batch... didn't. Two days later, it's more like a thin pâté. At least it tasted good.
My dad said that this was the best meal he had had in a long time. I took it as the compliment he intended. (Sadly, with a couple cases of COVID among the residents, their dining hall is shut down - so he is getting cold delivered food, often wrong. I am sure that also contributed to his happiness with the dinner.)
For Xmas, Dad asked if we could go to a local Mexican place that he went to with his former girlfriend. That's fine - the important thing is having him happy.
