Miss Beatrice has been a bit more snuggly of late during the night - maybe it's getting colder, or maybe she is just in that mood. The current routine is:

• Sometime after the wife comes to bed, Bea jumps up onto the bed, usually on my side of the bed.
• If I am sleeping on my side (most common), Bea paws at the blanket until I wake up enough that I roll over onto my back.  Regardless of whether I want to spoon-cuddle the wife or not.
• Bea takes some pets and scritches, then settles down against me. Usually around my hip.  Sometimes with bonus drooling.
• She stays there for a while and eventually leaves.
• Repeat a few times.

Last night I found out that me being on my stomach is also acceptable.  Though she settled between my legs up against my butt - which meant that I couldn't flip over even when I wanted to.

Blanket fort has also been reinstated as a demand.  I spent a good chunk of Saturday providing that.  I'm happy to get the snuggling, but cats, man.

Yeah ... I'm babysitting the neighbors' feline overlords while they're traveling, and that ... Um. They're adorable, and they know me, but still ... Let's just say that I'm hearing "But cats, man..." with the same basic inflections as "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."

If we weren't willing to indulge our feline overlords, we shouldn't have signed up for the duty in the first place, right? (Including the dooty.)

Absolutely! I try to spoil the upstairs felines as much as I do my own two, but it's pretty clear that I'm merely a lackey (trusted to dispense treats and meals, allowed to touch them sometimes, but it's rare that they deign to show appreciation)...

After several months of gradual socializing and treat bribery during homeowners' meetings, Miss Bea doesn't run away from the neighbors entering the house from the back door. (Anyone else, or them entering from the front door, is scary and she runs away.) It will be interesting to hear how she reacts to them when we are gone for a week and a half next year.

(I may never ask, don't really need to know; but I do wonder if the upstairs neighbors made a Young Frankenstein reference in naming one of the cats Abbey - it definitely fits. She's kinda special...)
