Author, a reprise
Jun. 12th, 2005 10:02 amI forgot to mention the stereotypical "fan writer injecting her own biases into the author's work" moment at the signing. There's almost always at least one.
Fan: "I write fiction about transgendered people. When did Donna realize she was trans-gendered and needed to express zirself as a man?" [Yes, she used that "pronoun".]
LMB: "..."
LMB: "It's not really that Donna/Dono was a man in a woman's body. Donna did it for different reasons."
ME (thinking): As you'd know if you'd actually read the story, dumbass!"
Not to imply hatred towards transgenders, blah blah blah.

Date: 2005-06-12 06:13 pm (UTC)Somehow, the "man in a woman's body" theory just never came up for me when I read that book....
I'm a little frustrated, because I had meant to try to get to the book signing, and managed to *forget* about it once Friday evening rolled around :(

Date: 2005-06-12 06:26 pm (UTC)Gad. What a dope. That is so stupid ... if a person has done a complete trans-genderization, then in theory they are one sex or the other ...
Sheesh. (And I know, some folk never "complete" the process, or even actually go further than changing their clothing styles, but in those cases, they are predominantly one sex, physically, and personally preference aside, I still think of them that way ...)

Date: 2005-06-13 07:42 am (UTC)BUT zhe and hir and all the other ungendered pronouns are totally stupid. I don't know what the solution for these people is, because they truly don't feel like one or the other fits. Until someone comes up with a non gendered pronoun that doesn't make me sound like a drunken buffoon...I will continue to use gendered pronouns.
