The Boy is in Trouble.

Galen has been thrashing about late at night of late -- after being cute, snuggly, and napping until midnight, of course. I've resorted to locking him out of the bedroom so that he doesn't keep me awake. (The wife is still up, so she tries to wear him out.)
One of my original name suggestions for him was Edmund Hillary as he's always been a climber. We had to take the bathroom glass shelf down for a while because he kept trying to climb up there; it's back up, but only because we wrapped it in aluminum foil. The crunchiness seems to bother him, but it's an ugly temporary fix. And we can't put it on all the horizontal surfaces.
The thing that has gotten him in trouble today: he figured out how to get up to the fireplace mantel around 4 AM. Which is full of things that he could knock down.
So he did.
One of the heavier items landed on the marble panel around the fireplace. The corner of the marble, unsurprisingly, broke in a whole bunch of pieces.
The wife has locked him out of the living room for the day, until she has the self-control necessary to glue the pieces back in. It won't look as nice, of course.
... I don't know what we can do. He's a dear, sweet cat most of the time. Then he turns into destructo-kitty. We don't have a big enough place to lock him in a defined room (even if we could), and letting him go outside is right out.

We got a cool new kitty toy...
It's basically a battery powered motion sensor mounted on top of a can of compressed air. Turn it on, point it at something you don't want the cat to play with and step back to watch the fun!
It also beeps before blasting, so there's a warning and the cats learn pretty quick to run away when they hear the beep, so you CAN turn off the compressed air after a while.

Date: 2005-08-10 12:23 am (UTC)As for the automatic cat doors -- check out Flo Control (http://www.quantumpicture.com/Flo_Control/flo_control.htm) for when your cats start feeling the need to take the outdoors back inside.
