The computer died yesterday.
Actually, it's just mostly-dead. But I don't think a chocolate-covered pill will help. Irrecoverable errors upon startup, and I can't find the rescue disks that I know I created for just such an emergency!
I've asked our tech-support friend (who built it in the first place) to come take a look; hopefully he can take care of it.
In the meantime, no e-mail or computer games.
