madbaker: (Giants)
It was a beautiful night.
The last evening of summer. 70 degrees with a light breeze. A half-moon over the right field wall.

Seats behind the bullpen (not the dugout as I previously mentioned), so I was 20 feet from the Giants' starter as he warmed up. After his last toss, he carefully handed the ball to a 2-year-old, who was oblivious to the whole thing. The dad was ecstatic, though.

I kept my streak alive: when we got up in the 3rd to get hot dogs, a foul ball hit the empty seats behind us. Other games I've gotten up to use the bathroom and a foul hit my seat. I've never gotten a ball, but I guess I should cultivate a bigger bladder and maybe I'll have a chance.

A couple of beers, a Giants victory to keep their wild-card lead and pull within 1 1/2 of the Dodgers... well worth the lack of sleep it caused.

I drink my coffee strong. Thick. Unadulterated. I like the taste of coffee, dammit, and the caffeine is a needed side-effect. But even if I didn't work East Coast hours on a Left Coast sleep schedule, I'd still drink coffee.

Unfortunately, I work in an industrial park, so there's nowhere to get coffee outside the building.
Fortunately, we've badgered the higher-ups to buy decent beans.
Unfortunately, the coffee machine in our breakroom jammed up this week.
Fortunately, there's another breakroom with a working machine nearby.
Unfortunately, they drink crayon-style coffee.

I can't wait for our machine to get fixed. I probably should make sure that someone has called it in...

("Crayon-style coffee": there's a Peanuts cartoon from way back [waaay back, when it was actually funny] where Linus makes Lucy a cup of hot chocolate. She makes a face and says "This tastes like a cup of hot water with a brown crayon soaked in it!"
Linus responds "Really? I'll go add another crayon.")

Ouch.

I'm allergic to penicillin. At least, the one time that they gave it to me as a kid, I got hives half the size of my head and stopped breathing. It could have been a one-off, but why tempt fate?

The wife has been (justifiably) nagging me for several years about this. I finally gave in and ordered a Medic-Alert type bracelet. It arrived yesterday.

I'm trying to adjust to wearing it. It's mildly annoying - it's about the same diameter as my watch band, so it wants to ride in the same place. I can't stand having anything dangling against my wrist, so that's not an option.

Minor, yes. But that's one of the reasons I post here, to chronicle the unimportant goings-on in my life.
