There's still hope for period coloring
Feb. 8th, 2007 07:23 amOut of curiosity, I looked up the Scotch Broom plant -- it turns out that what's found in CA is the original European plant, not a relation as I originally thought. It's classified as a non-native invasive weed. Just like woad.
The wife had the idea of trying tempera paint on the mask. This would use the same pigments we tried earlier, but the added yellow of the yolk should brighten them up. Plus, it's incredibly period and stable.
