I went to a last-minute signing last night. A new-ish author I like, Brandon Sanderson, was in town. He and another author apparently hit six bookstores in San Francisco signing store stock, but one of them had enough notice to send out a quick message to their customers. Which I appreciated, since I already had his three books.

He seems like a nice guy. There were six or ten people there, so the authors decided to do a quick reading as well. He called his wife in Utah, asked her to e-mail the first chapter of the next book to him (it's due in June), and he read it directly from his phone.

Ain't technology grand?

"The best team doesn't always win and I think that's the case here," Yankees outfielder Damon told reporters.

Shall we compare?
2007 Yankee$ regular-season record: 94-68
2007 Indians regular-season record: 96-66

...and your team barely scraped one win in the five-game playoffs. I'd say that Cleveland was pretty clearly the better team.

I spent way, waay too much time on the cell phone today with tech support. We were trying to set up the wireless router (which, by the way, was working fine before we called). I spent so much time that the cell phone ran out of juice.

Not going to go into details - it was a comedy of errors - but eventually things got resolved. If only I'd had [livejournal.com profile] semy_of_pearls' work number...

Things now work. The proof? I'm typing this on our network, in the kitchen.
On the brand new laptop!

What I'm reading: Paul Kearney, Hawkwood's Voyage
