We watched Walk Hard last night. Tuesday night was Walk the Line, which I'd seen but [livejournal.com profile] bonacorsi hadn't.

WH was funny, but it really needed the context of WTL to make it hilarious. While it takes much of its structure from WTL it's really a satire of music biopics in general: poor farm boy learns to play guitar, finds his musical voice, gets famous while getting addicted to drugs and sex, renounces music and drugs, becomes famous again. Oh, and his childhood trauma was accidentally cutting his more-talented brother in half with a machete. His father's catchphrase: "The wrong son died."

The songs were surprisingly good, too. "Walk Hard" was decent as a straight-up country rock song, but "Let's Duet" was hysterical -
Cox: In my dreams you're blowing me... Some kisses.
Darlene: That's one of my favorite things to do.
Cox: You and I could go down... In history.
Darlene: That's what I'm praying to do with you.

Definitely worth a rental.
