I don't eat out much.
Feb. 3rd, 2009 04:38 pmBut it's fun to read: 100 Things to Eat in SF Before You Die.
My list is getting longer, probably in time for 7x7 to produce an all-new list (sigh). I'm updating later eatings in italics.
- Roast chicken and bread salad at Zuni
- 3. Carnitas taco at La Taqueria
- 5. Chasu ramen at Katana-Ya (Oh, so that's what real ramen is like?)
- 6. Burger with fries at Slow Club (Good. Not mouthgasm good, but worth going for.)
- 7. Shaking beef at the Slanted Door (Meh. Their other dishes are better.)
- 8. Morning bun at Tartine Bakery (a tasty orange/sugar/spice thing, but not anywhere near tasty enough to warrant waiting in line for 20+ minutes.)
- 12. Porchetta sandwich at RoliRoti at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market
- 16. Katsu curry from Muracci’s Japanese Curry & Grill (Good, but takes too long for a quick lunch.)
- 18. Salumi misti plate at Perbacco
- 19. Tuna tartare at Michael Mina (Fabulous. I wouldn't go back on my own dime though.)
- 22. Vietnamese roasted pork sandwich at Saigon Sandwich (Yum. Cheap. Line out the door.)
- 23. Beer sausage with sauerkraut and grilled onions at Rosamunde Sausage Grill
- 24. Blue Bell Bitter from the cask at Magnolia Pub (It went very well with the sausage, above, from next door.)
- 26. A classic gin martini at Bourbon & Branch (well, I had other drinks there. Maybe a martini next time)
- 27. Papaya salad with salty crab at Sai Jai Thai (Meh. I think it actually put a hurt on my stomach.)
- 28. A Gibraltar at Blue Bottle Café (Generally just drip coffee, but the Gibraltar is a tasty shooter drink.)
31. Pan con chocolate with sea salt and olive oil at Laiola(It's turning into a new restaurant called "Tacolicious" that somehow, I don't think will carry the item.)- 35. Salted-caramel ice cream at Bi-Rite Creamery
- 37. Rotisserie chicken at Limon Rotisserie (Nice. A serious step up from a Safeway "rotisserie" chicken, and I rather liked the sauces.)
- 38. French fries at Hayes Street Grill
- 40. Cheeseburger at Taylor's Automatic Refresher (Actually had it in Napa)
- 41. Pho ga at Turtle Tower (Tasty and cheap. Always a good combination.)
- 42. Fried-shrimp po'boy at Brenda's French Soul Food (Good, but it did not induce a mouthgasm.)
- 44. Cannelé at Boulangerie Bay Bread (It was decent. I wouldn't go out of my way for one)
- 45. Galapagos cocktail at Absinthe (I had a Pegu Club there, and it was good.)
- 46. Chips and salsa at Papalote (It was okay. I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Again.)
- 49. Ginger snaps at Miette
- 53. Garlic soup at Piperade (Utterly spectacular. Not supremely garlicky but very, very good.)
- 54. Spiced-chocolate doughnut at Dynamo Donut with a Four Barrel coffee (The doughnut is fabulous. The coffee, not so much.)
- 58. Absinthe daiquiri at Jardinière (I've had other cocktails here. Since I can't stand absinthe - or anything vaguely licorice flavored - I'm going to count that.)
- 60. The Brass Monkey at Little Star Pizza (That funky monkey!)
- 62. Shrimp-and-chive dumplings at Ton Kiang
- 65. Crispy eggplant at Jai Yun (I couldn't order this: partly because I don't like eggplant, but mostly because they don't let you order. They serve you what they want to make that day. I respect that. Also, the food is very good and I'd like to return.)
- 66. Pig parts at Incanto (Oh, yes. Several times and I'll go back.)
- 67. Sand dabs at Tadich Grill
- 68. Irish coffee at Buena Vista Café (I had this on its birthday and mine. It is older. And hotter. Also tastier.)
69. Licorice parfait at South(Not that I'd have ever eaten this anyway, but the restaurant is closing.)- 73. Popovers with strawberry butter at the Rotunda (Neiman Marcus) (The popovers were no better, although no worse, than ones I've made. The strawberry butter was quite nice and it's an elegant, if expensive, place to have tea.)
- 74. Corned-beef sandwich with Gruyère at the Sentinel (Very tasty corned beef, good cabbage, no Gruyere. Still, quite tasty.)
- 83. Sweet-potato fries with banana catsup at Poleng Lounge (Right by Saturday school, so I've had a few beers there as well as this once. Another sad casualty - they no longer serve food.)
- 85. A pulled-pork sandwich at Roadside BBQ (Decent, but I wouldn't bother going back.)
- 86. A cheese slice at Arinell Pizza (Meh. New Yawk style thin crust, heavy on the grease. Not bad, I suppose, but I prefer a more traditional Neapolitan-style.)
- 87. Fresh spring rolls at Out the Door (Good, but I like their steamed pork buns and their Vietnamese chicken sandwiches much better.)
- 88. Buckwheat crepe and a French cider at Ti Couz
- 91. Albondigas soup at Mijita (Meh. Nothing special that I could tell.)
- 96. Baby-coconut ice cream from Mitchell’s
- 97. Sesame balls at Yank Sing (I love these.)
- 99. Clam chowder at Hog Island Oyster Co.
