Gastronomica
Nov. 12th, 2009 10:05 amMy visit to the Buena Vista went well; I sat at the window, sipped my very good Irish coffee, ate a mediocre lamb stew, and listened to an Irish fiddle band playing live.
Had dinner with the wife at Piperade, a Basque restaurant in the financial district(ish). Their garlic soup is utterly fabulous. The wife and I split some small plates so dinner didn't cost an arm and a leg. It's also nice that the restaurant is quiet - we could converse without shouting. I'd happily go back (especially for a business lunch).
Coincidentally, those are two items from the 7x7 100 Things to Eat in SF Before You Die. At least the 2009 edition... I'm up to 35 and they'll probably change them all around next year. Le sigh.
I received some single malt from the wife and a pork-themed t-shirt from the upstairs neighbors. Yesterday I met the wife for lunch at a liquor store / lunch counter in the Mission; we split a Cuban torta that Tony Bourdain reviewed in his SF episode of No Reservations. Ham, breaded pork, a hot dog, jalapenos and assorted veg. It only cost $10 and the thing was an utter gut bomb - I could barely finish my half. It was messy and totally awesome.
