This week's Resolution Recipe, which is a bit of a cheat: How to quickly seed Pomegranates.

Cut off the "tiara" on top of the pomegranate and slice it in half along the fruit's equator. Cut four or five 1" nicks in the skin along the cut edge, approximately in a star pattern.

Hold a half pomegranate around the edge, facing down into a bowl (preferably within a deep well like the sink). Take a large metal spoon in your other hand and whack the pomegranate with the back of the spoon repeatedly. The seeds will pop out into the bowl. Clean out the few remaining seeds from the pomegranate rind and clean out any white pithy bits that made it into the bowl.

Voila! A completely seeded pomegranate with very little mess in under five minutes. Yes, the "treasure hunt" method was fun as a kid, but it leaves stained hands and takes over an hour.

What worked: See "voila" paragraph above.
What didn't: It's too easy. Now I have no excuse to buy and eat pomegranates in season.
Will I do it again? Since I have >10 pomegranates sitting in the back porch, definitely!

Dinner last night with the wife:
Fresh Dungeness crab, with melted garlic butter
A green salad with carrot, celery, radishes, green onions, and pomegranate seeds
Fresh bread
and Fronch champagne, which aside from the butter was the only non-locally produced thing we consumed. The whole thing was fabulous.
