Mar. 24th, 2010 08:46 amWe went out to Sebo Sushi last night for the wife's birthday. They're supposed to have one of the best omakase menus in the city - for reference, that's the sushi place Anthony Bourdain visited on his show. They don't take reservations so we showed up, nicely dressed, a little after their opening.
aaaaand they were closed. It was a Japanese holiday. It would have been nice had they noted that fact on their website.
We wandered up and down that block of Hayes Valley and settled on the new Patxi's Chicago-style pizza place. It smelled good. However, the hipster waiters treated us rudely (maybe they didn't like our clothes or relative lack of piercings) and the pizza was decent but overpriced and underwhelming. I counted two pieces of pepperoni and one mushroom on the two slices I ate.
While I was trying to keep our disappointment at the sushi place from coloring our dinner, I still wouldn't go back to the pizza place.
Oh, and the ice cream place we thought we'd try on our way home was closed too. Somehow, we were expecting that.
