Friday the wife and I went out for a date night dinner. I received my first payment from the firm as a principal, which seemed like a good excuse. We went to La Ciccia - a local Sardinian restaurant we've been to a couple times before. However, they are quite good, semi-reasonably priced, and the 7x7 100 list had their baby octopus stew on it.

We ordered the stew as an appetizer along with house-cured sardines. The sardines were all right: decent but nothing special. The spicy tomato baby octopus stew, however, was spectacular. The spice level was present but not overwhelming and the octopodes were tender and not at all chewy.

For a main course I ordered lamb. Like the sardines, it was nothing special. We each took a bite and had it packed up. The waitress was concerned but we assured her that we were simply full and that it would keep better than the other entree - shrimp in squid ink. Like the octopus stew it was superb. A mound of intensely black squid which we happily devoured.

We'll eat the lamb tomorrow for dinner. No complaints. But if we were doing it over we'd just split the stew and shrimp (maybe with a pasta appetizer if we were feeling hungry), have no leftovers, and have dined happily.
