Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Preview
Dec. 14th, 2011 07:33 amThe wife got preview tickets for the movie last night. We got there an hour early and waited in a stupidly long line (that got stupidly longer) and had to sit down front, which I stopped liking when I was 14. But at least we were able to sit together.
The pre-preview ads were all aimed at 6-10 year old kids. Really? For this movie? No movie previews though, so that was nice at least.
The movie itself: nice job cutting it down to semi-reasonable movie length while still keeping twists and turns, and the soul of the novel intact. Oldman and Firth were understated and put in good, non scenery-chewing performances. It's clearly not for everyone, however: as we walked out I heard two guys confusedly trying to understand the last scene. Actually, I don't think they ever understood what "The Circus" was. That probably means they never understood any of the movie...
What I'm reading: Dave Duncan, When The Saints
