Holiday wrap-up (and unwrap)
Dec. 26th, 2017 09:15 amHappy $holiday, everyone. In reverse chronological order...
We normally celebrate Boxing Day by meeting my mother for dim sum. It allows us to interact with her in a public space, in a time-limited fashion. She cancelled last night as she has the flu. That's understandable. I suppose we'll reschedule. I took today off work so I could do this, but I declined to cancel my day off. The wife and I are still going to get dim sum in an hour when they open.
Christmas Day was nice. Quiet. I made blueberry muffins, we drank aged eggnog, we exchanged presents with each other and the upstairs neighbors. I gave the wife a piece of jewelry she really wanted and she gave me a signed baseball. (Matt Cain, who I always liked.) She spent the day working on 12th Night clothes and I spent much of the day playing on the computer. We had traditional Christmas dinner: Kung Pao chicken. Which I made rather than takeout, but.
Christmas Eve with my dad was fine. He seems to be doing well, although a bit blue due to remembering his then-new girlfriend's unexpected death around this time of year. We tried to cheer him up as best we could.
Other errands today include bread, random purchases (chicken for the cat for example), and so forth. Another quiet day before I dive back into year-end hell at work, which will only be made worse by my long weekend. But.
