May. 23rd, 2020 12:24 pmThis week's Lockdown Takeout Review: Kantine.
This is a local Scandahoovian place that had a stand at the farmers' market last year (? I think) before their space was ready. We got to quite like their brothy porridge, so when the wife spotted them in a list that was her choice for this week. We chose to do Saturday takeout brunch.
What worked: The cinnamon knot was quite good - not too sweet and no icing. The open-face smoked trout sandwich was also excellent.
What didn't: The porridge was fine, but it didn't work for me the way I had hoped. Perhaps because it was a cooked-grain porridge and not a broth? I don't think it's really their fault - it was still tasty enough, but nonetheless I was slightly disappointed in it.
Will we go there again? Quite possibly. Although it is more likely we will start making this sort of open-face sandwich during the summer instead, and while I'm working from home I can make groat broth in the small slow cooker for breakfast.
