Danish pastries renamed "Roses of the prophet Mohammed" in Iran.
I'd make fun of them, but you know, Freedom Fries.

...and hot dogs from Frankfurters and so on.

Did anyone other than DC-area people ever use the term Freedom Fries?

According to the Straight Dope, the term "hot dog" was in use at Yale in 1894 (http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mhotdog.html) - it predates WWI. The English royals taking "Windsor", sauerkraut to "liberty cabbage", and Pomona College's sports teams changing from the Huns to the Hens (and then to Sagehens) are all WWI however.

However, those happened 90 years ago. Until more recently, I thought people had moved beyond that sort of nonsense. Sigh.
