A small amount of bonus points for correctly identifying the reference. I'll take them away if you look it up, though.

So the wife, my father, and I were chatting this weekend and the talk turns to driving in the sun. I start in about my commute home and how the sun is on my left, so I have to always use the... um... glare... flippy-thing.

"You mean a visor?"
"...yeah."

I hate it when that happens.

I *love* when that happens. I'm endlessly amused by what the brain will pop up with when the proper word has gone AWOL

Snort. It'll happen more as you age. Trust me. <g>

Shouldn't the tag be "d'oh!" instead of "aargh"?

Is that your guess?

You win the bonus points! They cut through a can, and can still slice a tomato!

While I'm always amused at what the brain links together to turn into a word for not-a-word-I-can-remember, in a observational way....

I have sufficiently bad case of nominal aphasia (inability to recall words, particularly nouns) that it's happening all the time. As G said, wait until you are older -). Luckily or not, mine appears to be related to lingering affects of illness rather than just age.

Make up goofier filler-words - that way, you're too busy laughing to be ungruntled by the brain-misfire. Works for me, anyway.

You know, when you reach a certain age, it's perfectly normal to forget a few words now and then.
