My custom fedora is on its way. The maker took about five weeks.
Here's what it looks like.

Congratulations on your impending fedorification!

(I just really wanted to say that. But also, fedora! Cool!)

Verrah nice, but then I do like fedoras, at least classic ones. I am wondering about the ribbon sewn on the brim -- I don't know enough about these to know if they're "standard" or what. When watching movies some of them have them, some don't (and that includes vintage movies from the time when men wore hats regularly).

The ribbons that Art uses are vintage.

I'm talking about the one sewn around the outer edge of the brim, not the one on the Crown. I recall from your mentioning before that he's using vintage ribbon, but I was asking about the style of having the ribbon on the outer edge of the brim. I realize you're not the one making it, and may not know, just curious. <g>

I imagine that it depends partly on whether the felt would unravel. Not being a seamster, I don't know if that's the case with this. But it's also style.

Yes, it is correct, but mostly on the higher priced ones because it helps hold the shape and make the hat last longer. And it is also good for hiding a reinforcing wire, if one was used.

Ah, okay -- makes sense. I guess to my "modern" eye, the ribbon on the brim looks like "too much", either that or it's because the first fedora I had (not an expensive one, but a nice one) didn't have the ribbon there and that's what sticks in my head as "the right way".

Vedy cool! I think it was you who once said (whilst modeling a felt hat at a Ducal auction), "One is not fully dressed in the eyes of God without a hat!"
