I have spoken. Now I will be silent.

However - outside the normal bounds of my duties, of course - I think I will also Let be. Nothing in my oath, office, or station requires me to be in charge of Doing.

I'm there with you brother. We can just hose the seats and the hats off before the next set gets them.

So I'm guessin' I can't mark you down to help me out? :) I'm planning to start counting numbers and recruiting as soon as the office is in my hands in order to make sure I have enough bodies - since it will indeed be my responsibility even if the pledge has been made that assistance will be given in getting bodies to help run the thing. :)

Oh no, that's not what I meant at all. (However, I don't think I'm in voice shape to help out.)

That's one approach, but it won't get you what you want.

You have someone in power who is enthusiastic about a new idea. You can say, "That's a bad idea, and here's why," but not a whole lot of hearing will take place, and the new idea will occur as initially proposed. Or, you can say, "That's an interesting/great/some-positive-word-here idea. [You now have his attention.] I really like it that everyone gets to fight more/consorts get more attention/come up with your own reason here. [He's still listening.] But don't you think that inviting everyone into the round robin without having them intend to reign if victorious cheapens your whole idea? [The problem will affect him, not you.] You are likely to get more fighters with this new format anyway; requiring that entrants intend to reign will keep the intent of a Coronet list while still maintaining the honor of fighting for their consorts. [A way to fix it while still giving him what he wants.] What do you think? [Now it's time to engage in a dialogue where you help fix things.]

I haven't tried this specific argument (yet), this approach works really well. You can repeat as necessary, too.

The pairings are to be announced full voice as the equivalent to arm and stand ready. The litany will be read at normal voice to each pair.

That is, the entire list of pairings for the round, so one full voice announcement per round, but still individual litany (good gentles, you meet here on your honor, salute salute salute) per fight.

Yep, as I understand it, standard litany ...

You go, tiger. I think that's a great approach, though I personally doubt it's chances for success on this particular target. But I hope you'll try anyway.

I always said you are very clever with words.

Start with the positive (if you can find any), then gently work around to the negative. It could work - we hope.

You've done your job as a Peer without compromising your duty as an Officer. You win.

It doesn't feel like a victory.

No, it doesn't, if you expect your actions to affect his; the victory lies in your self-respect, and the respect of your friends.
