My grandmother lived on Catalina Island. We spent every summer there when I was growing up, although I haven't been back in about twenty-five years.

My mother was there last week with her sister. They were putting the house up for sale. While she referred to it as a "scraper", I don't think this is what she meant.

I hope they can save the city. If it burns, part of my childhood will go with it.

Wow, that really sucks. In the marathon baseball novel I've been writing for two years (with no end in sight) there's a fictional team on Catalina. In my mind the Barons are burning. :(

Oh goddess. My grandmother used to take me out to Catalina when I was a child. She took me out to watch the flying fish the first time and we went up to the top of the island. I counted buffalo on the way up and wanted to catch a rattlesnake.

If Santa Cruz gets overrun by locusts instead of Monarchs this year... Well, then; that says it all, doesn't it?

I wonder if the 'Bee thing' figures in to all this...?
