L'esprit de l'escalier
Jun. 27th, 2007 12:30 pmOr in this case, "de toilette"*
Yesterday I made a quick pit stop in a public library bathroom. From one of the stalls, I heard a cell phone ring.
And the guy answered it, and started to talk.
...
Today I realized there are any number of things I should have said (loudly): "Hey buddy, pass the toilet paper"; "How about a courtesy flush"; etc etc.
I'd say that I'll remember for next time, but I devoutly hope there isn't a next time.
* "L'esprit de l'escalier", or "spirit of the staircase" refers to coming up with the perfect rejoinder as you're walking away up the stairs.

LOL
Date: 2007-06-29 11:08 pm (UTC)I'm more bugged by the ones who talk at the top of their voices on cell phones in the booth next to mine in a restaurant! Sometimes they actually drown out the person I'm sitting with. urgh!
