I like my neighbor, yes I do.

A good thing, really, because if this afternoon/evening's events had occurred for someone I didn't like, such as the pointy-haired boss running my department, well - it might have been three-state killing-spree time.
The curvy upstairs neighbor had a birthday yesterday. Sunday I promised her I'd make a chocolate cake today. No big deal - I've made this recipe before, it's relatively easy, tasty and rich. I had all the ingredients already, except for a half-pint of cream and about a pound of dark chocolate.
cue the soft, ominous music - gradually getting louder
No problem. After work, I'll go pick up the fresh turkey for Thanksgiving, then hit the Trader Joe's nearby. Okay, it'll be crowded, but that's to be expected.
The TJ's was out of bulk chocolate. Except for white, which is a crime against nature.
(sigh) All right, I'll hit the TJ's near home. Drive in heavy traffic, drop turkey off in fridge, say hello to cat (who is very disappointed that I'm leaving again), and decide to hit the Slaveway instead. It's closer and easier to park.
They don't have bulk chocolate.
grumble grumble get back in car, drive to TJ's, eventually find parking.
They have chocolate. Dark, even. Perfect.
They don't have cream. Sold out.
Wait in line, buy chocolate, drive back over to Slaveway, get cream, wait in line, drive home.
Mix up batter. Grease pan, pour in batter, bake cake. It takes longer than the 30 minutes the recipe calls for, but I expect that. I've made this before. Take it out, invert onto a plate to remove from pan.
Cake goes sloosh. Not scrambled, but close.
(music is very loud now)
Okay, I'll cover the flaws with the chocolate ganache (cream blended with chocolate). Done it before.
Place chocolate in blender with cream, close it up, hit switch, and -
cream goes splurting all over counter
I should have expected that by now.
I'd go have cat therapy, but Galen is in attack mode. Naturally.

Date: 2003-11-26 06:09 am (UTC)It happens to the best of us. Try not to think about it next time. You'll be able to do it again without a problem, and she'll be very *very* pleased with what you're able to do.
We are talking about making a cake, aren't we? I thought so.
