That is a joke I expect a few people will get. That's okay; the humor value is commensurately small.
Bonus Resolution Recipe, partly to make up for some of the past weeks I missed and mostly because I don't want to be several weeks ahead. I have to force my culinary creativity to cooperate with a weekly schedule, or it pouts and will sulk in a corner for weeks before bursting forth in a flurry of activity the next week. So: Apple Shandy.
Adapted from Nathan Gurr of Eli's Table, New York
Makes 1 drink
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
6 ounces chilled saison beer (I used Anchor Saison)
6 ounces chilled apple cider
1/2 ounce calvados
Apple slice (optional)
For simple syrup, simmer equal parts sugar and water until the sugar dissolves, then chill in the fridge.
Pour the lemon juice and simple syrup at the bottom of a 14-ounce glass. Add the equal parts beer and cider, then float the calvados on top and garnish with an optional apple slice.
What worked: It was quite tasty and refreshing. Easy to drink, and it would have been easy to drink way too many.
What didn't: See the previous sentence.
Will I make it again? Possibly, although see the previous sentence.
