Butter Fix That

I opened the butter bell to lightly butter toast this morning and discovered that the butter had fallen out of the bell into the base. That happens occasionally, especially when it's hot as it was yesterday.

However, this happened because the person who smushed the butter into the bell did not fill the base with water (which is the whole function of the bell setup).

That person was me.

Does the butter get rancid in your little butter house? I've thought about getting one, but was fearful of bad butter

Under normal circumstances the butter keeps a couple weeks, which is usually plenty of time to use it up. It stays soft and spreadable this way. We're never going back to other butter dishes, or to cutting butter off the cube from the fridge.

They generally work very well, and you get spreadable butter all the time.

Butter bells work in moderate climates. If the butter melts when you leave it out on a plate, it'll melt in a bell.

I love my butter dish! It really does help if one remembers the water. However, in hot weather I find that an ice cube or three in the water really helps keep the butter from falling into the water.
