I went to a professional event last night. One of the large financial firms, whose products we are significant users, held a small dinner* at a local sushi place. Somewhat surprisingly, I had few normal introvert issues with the small talk. Some awkwardness during the pre-dinner cocktail time, but really none once I was seated in between a few people. Maybe because they were the only ones I was dealing with?
Anyway, it was very tasty sushi on an expense account. I did not avail myself of the open bar the way some of the other customers did, although I did have a few glasses of wine with dinner. Enough that I didn't sleep well; I think 1.5 glasses is about my limit before the alcohol interferes. It reminded me of when I was on the institutional buy-side and brokers would take us out, which is a nice ego-sop.
Not doing it again soon though, because while I am not hung over by any means, I am dragging significantly today. The impending cold is not helping either.
*fewer than 20 people total, including the firm's team.
