Messing About Turgid Drama

I make a pour-over cup of coffee each morning. The routine is pretty constant: pour the hot water over the grounds in the drip filter, wait for it to drip through, then refill as needed.

Today as I moved to refill I bumped the porcelain filter. It tipped over, scattering wet grounds everywhere. Oh, and I only got 2/3 cup of coffee. At least none of the grounds went into the cup...

does that inverse luck translate to "go buy a lottery ticket right now"?

Not that I ever believed in this sort of thing, but it was really hammered home in 2009. I had been laid off and both the wife and I came down with pneumonia, which laid us out for a couple weeks (and longer to recover stamina). We were on COBRA, so health insurance both sucked and was horrendously expensive. That would have been the perfect time for a feel-good lottery win - but nothing.
