As you may have seen on the Book of Faces, we are no longer a catless household. We picked up Beatrice (grey medium-hair, possibly longer) and Hildegard (grey/white shorthair) from the SPCA yesterday.
They've been here less than 24 hours, so this is clearly first impressions. It's tough under lockdown rules to choose cats because you can't meet them and find the one(s) that pick you. We had fallen hard for a couple of boys at a shelter in Tracy, but one was sniped before we had a chance and the other is so popular they are holding a lottery next week. We decided we didn't want to wait for the probable disappointment.
The wife had been looking locally just in case, and we pulled the trigger. Hilde was one she adored from the picture and the other one she wanted was unfortunately adopted right before our call. So we went with Beatrice on the fly because floofy grey kitten. We made an appointment and picked them up yesterday.
Hilde is loud, fearless, and fierce. She has explored the whole house already. She is an avid player and doesn't like being ignored. Bea is not shy, but still scared of the upheaval and hides. (We're keeping her locked in the bathroom to adjust, but she keeps darting out... and then hiding elsewhere.) She loves cuddling. Both purr motors work strongly.
The names are our choices; the wife has a tradition of philosophers. Beatrice was Dante's muse. Hildegard von Bingen was an 11th c. Catholic philosopher. So far they've seemed like they'll stick.

Date: 2020-07-03 05:10 pm (UTC)Of note, our local shelter is *not* allowing appointments for specific kittens. You get an hour with them all. However, they're booked up a week in advance so any kitten we see online before we get there may not be available. We're going Wednesday afternoon.
