Turgid Drama At the Boiling Point
Jul. 23rd, 2020 08:10 amI set up a few eggses in the Instant Pot last night to hard boil. It's one of the standard things we use it for. It doesn't save any time, and they only peel more easily if you use them right away (and I generally don't because I have one for breakfast and make a week's worth at once). But it is easier to just hit the button and walk away.
In this case I wanted two for a dinner salad and figured I might as well boil a couple extra for the fridge. After ten minutes, there was a lot of steam and the pot still hadn't pressurized. Weird.
After another ten, I gave up, turned the damn thing off, and boiled the eggses on the stove. And then figured out that I had forgotten to put in the sealing ring. The damn thing was never going to pressurize, and in fact had almost boiled dry. At least it was "almost" rather than burning out the pot liner or the element.
