This week's Lockdown Takeout Review: Trestle.

We're not doing weekly takeouts anymore, but it's still kind of fun to record these. Trestle is a local place we went to last year for my birthday, and we really liked it. It's very small and their pre-plague MO was a weekly four-course themed prix fixe dinner. Each course had two choices. Because they limited their dishes to eight (and bought an in-season ingredient in bulk for that week), they priced significantly below their quality level. They also became a favorite in the restaurant industry because it was interesting and changed every week.

We had reservations for the wife's birthday in late March... which was right after lockdown started and Trestle closed down for several months. When I saw that they had restarted with takeout, I decided to do a takeout dinner date night. They aren't themed right now, but I have no objections.

Menu follows. We had one of everything.

Appetizers
Italian Wedding Soup (wilted greens, orzo pasta, spiced tiny meatball)
Little Gem Cobb Salad

Pasta
Ricotta Gnudi (with chanterelles and corn)
Cavatappi Bolognese (a worm-like pasta)

Mains
Slow Roasted Salmon (spinach, mushrooms, summer beans, mushroom broth)
Duck Confit salad

Desserts
Pink Lemonade Cream Pie (almond, strawberry compote, meringue)
Chocolate S'Mores (toasted marshmallow ice cream, graham cracker, feuilletine crunch)

We also got a bottle of reasonably-priced Fronch bubbly.

What worked: Pickup was easy. Everything was at least enjoyable. The gnudi were a standout. All in all, it was a luxurious yet not over-priced date night.

What didn't: Hot dishes weren't by the time we got home and got to them. We did put the pastae in the toaster oven on warm, which helped. Also, we didn't look fully at the menu and didn't realize that the s'mores involved ice cream so we only put that in the fridge - it was soup. Tasty, tasty soup.

Will I visit again? Assuming that we ever can visit for normal service, absolutely. They also offer a to-go meal kit (no choices) that looks slightly smaller and cheaper. We might try that next time.
