Oct. 22nd, 2021 10:28 amBonus Resolution Recipe: the Fidelio Cocktail.
1 oz rye
1 oz coffee liqueur (I used a Patron tequila-based liqueur)
1/2 oz amaro
1/4 oz blended Scotch (I used Bushmills)
1/4 oz orange liqueur
Combine all with ice, stir, strain, and serve.
What worked: This was better than I expected, and it grew on me as I drank it. It was strong, dark, and only a bit bitter. I suspect this will depend most on what coffee liqueur you use; a cream-based one would be all wrong.
I only bought an airline sample bottle of this coffee liqueur, both because I don't use it much and because I wasn't sure I'd like it. I don't care for tequila (bad experience with bad tequila as an undergrad) but this didn't taste like tequila, and also wasn't sweet. I also got a rum-based one that I didn't particularly like.
What didn't: I was pretty happy with it.
Will I make it again? Occasionally, when I am in the mood for it. It'll go into the cocktail recipe book.
