It's cute, but ... there are lots of other reasons, mostly disenfranchisement ... you have to admit after the last presidential election where the popular vote didn't actually win the election ...
That argument is invalid and always has been. The popular vote has never been the measure used. All candidates knew that going in and the rules weren't changed after the fact.
Now, if you want to go after the Electoral College and/or Florida, that's a valid line of argument. I may or may not agree, but at least it's defensible.
Sorry, but ... the common man doesn't really know, understand, or care about the electoral college. What is SEEN by most people is that Bush did NOT win the election, and yet somehow he is the one in office ... When you look at that, you start to feel like "Well, why the fuck should I vote, then?"
Well, if the common man can't be bothered to learn enough about our system that he doesn't know, understand, or care - then we're better off without his vote.
FWIW, I'm bowing out of political discussions. I am not a debater, have never been good at debate, and frankly seldom manage in those situations to say what I mean, so ... I'm outta here.

Apathetic Voters are Caused by Electoral College Disenfranchisement.
Apathetic Voters are Caused by the Erosion of Attention Span Promoted by Entertainment Today.
Apathetic Voters are Caused by the Belief Enhanced by the Last Election Debacle That Our Votes Don't Matter.
Apathetic Voters are Caused by Thinking that Being Part of the System Isn't Cool.
Apathetic Voters are Caused by Widespread Apathy Involving Most Forms of Community
I'm sure we could think of lots more.
