The two restaurant visits recently were both excellent.
We went back to The Morris for the wife's birthday. We've been there several times and it never fails, especially their signature smoked duck. It was a good birthday dinner.

Last night we went to Flour+Water, a local Italian pasta-centric restaurant. The wife has wanted to go there for a while. But between its price point and popularity (reservations for one month out fill up the same day they open) we hadn't managed it. The first was helped by my dad giving us a gift certificate to them for Christmas. The second I managed when I was sick -- one benefit to not sleeping well was that I was awake at 5 AM on a Sunday, so I logged onto the computer and snagged a prime reservation (6:30 on a Saturday) for our anniversary.

The restaurant is only a 20 minute walk away, but the wife wanted to wear heels so we drove. We left early to find parking, but scored a spot less than a block away quickly. So we got to the restaurant 30 minutes early and had to wait at the bar with a glass of champagne. Darn!

We had their pasta tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The first amuse-bouche was a savory cannoli that I could have been happy with just a whole platter. Then there was a sformato (savory flan) that was a mouthgasm. Many other small pasta dishes followed and all were at least very good, with several others being mouthgasmy. We left replete, but not overstuffed.

Granted, I didn't sleep entirely well because dinner was much richer than our usual, and my stomach was feeling a bit tender - not from a hangover, just from digestion. So I made a childhood favorite, a poached egg in milk over toast. I hadn't made it in 40 years, but it was a perfect comfort breakfast that wasn't too filling.

Nice!
We had a favorite place in Hayward called Acqua e Farina.

Does that mean the egg is cooked in hot milk? If so, is both the egg and the milk poured onto the toast in a bowl to eat it? Or do you put only the now more or less solid egg on the toast? If the latter, what is done with the milk?
