This week's Resolution Recipe: Bitter Mai Tai.

1 1/2 oz Campari
3/4 oz Jamaican rum (preferably aged)
1/2 oz orange curaƧao
3/4 oz orgeat
1 oz lime juice

Combine, shake with ice for 10 seconds, strain into a rocks glass over crushed ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

What worked: I wasn't sure if it would be good. Apparently I was in the mood for the Campari flavor of bitter, because I quite liked it. It was citrusy-bitter like grapefruit (which I still miss a bit).

What didn't: Easy to drink.

Will I make it again? It will go into the summer cocktail rotation as I tend not to drink Campari in the winter. Except in Boulevardiers or Negronis.
Apparently the original version of this uses 1.5 oz Angostura bitters, like the Trinidad Sour; the bartender who came up with this version substituted Campari, which is a bit cheaper to use in that quantity. I might have to try the original anyway.

I'm intrigued. I enjoy a mai tai now and then, but usually they run too far to the sweet side of things.

I miss grapefruit, too. :(
